THE PROJECT
Ginninderry stretches from the north western suburbs of Canberra (Holt and Macgregor) across the ACT/NSW border into part of the Yass Valley Council Area. It is bounded on two sides by the Murrumbidgee River and Ginninderra Creek.
The team at Knight Frank Town Planning (KFTP) have been working on the Ginninderry project since 2007 beginning with the original planning and feasibility phases. Our ongoing role has included:
- Planning consultant and project lead for the Estate Development Plan documentation and approval process
- Statutory planning consultant for project wide matters – ACT & NSW
- Management of environmental approvals – both Territory (EIS exemption) and National (EPBC Referral) matters
- Project mapping data coordination and management
As lead Planning Consultant for this multi-disciplinary project, managing statutory planning and approvals from macro level planning legislation amendments to detailed estate development approvals. In addition, KFTP manage planning aspects of environmental approvals and mapping data for a multi-disciplinary team in excess of 80 different consultants across both the ACT and NSW.
Ginninderry is expected to eventually be home for up to 30,000 residents with a development timeframe of between 30-40 years.

KEY LESSONS
KFTP is leading the way for the implementation of integrated development in the Territory and the approving authorities are learning with us.
Combined with the introduction of innovative approaches and the delivery of alternative product to the market requires greater engagement with Government to work with them to achieve the full benefits of an outcomes based approach to estate development.
